Three Men's Hockey Players Earn All-New England Honors

Boston College sophomore forward Johnny Gaudreau earned the Leonard Fowle Award as the region's most valuable player as well as the Herb Gallagher Award as its best forward, and two teammates - senior forward Steven Whitney and freshman defenseman Michael Matheson - joined Gaudreau on the 2012-13 Division I all-star team, according to announcement made by the New England Hockey Writers' Association on Tuesday.
Gaudreau, who recorded 51 points - 21 goals and 30 assists - in 31 games, led the nation with 1.46 points per game. A top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker award, Gaudreau also earned Hockey East's Player of the Year and a unanimous All-Conference first-team honoree.
Gaudreau, Matheson and Whitney were joined on the New England Division I All-Star team by four forwards (Merrimack's Mike Collins, Yale's Kenny Agostino, Bentley's Brett Gensler and UMass Lowell's Joe Pendenza), three defensemen (UNH's Trevor van Riemsdyk, Merrimack's Jordan Heywood and UMass-Lowell's Chad Ruhwedel) and two goaltenders (Providence's Jon Gillies and Quinnipiac's Eric Hartzell).
The New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star teams and awards have been finalized after tallying votes from all Division I coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England. This year's banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will start at 6 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala.
