Hockey Announces 2011-12 Captains

Defenseman Tommy Cross will serve as captain of the 2011-12 Boston College hockey team and forwards Barry Almeida and Paul Carey will serve as assistant captains, according to an announcement made by head coach Jerry York on Monday.
The trio was elected by a vote of their peers.
All three players are now completing their junior years and will lead the team as seniors.
Cross played in 28 games this winter, including each of the team's final 23 contests, and tallied 18 points - seven goals and 11 assists. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenseman earned Hockey East All-Tournament honors after he recorded five points - one goal and four assists - in four league tournament victories.
A resident of Simsbury, Conn., and a graduate of Westminster School, Cross has registered 36 points - 12 goals and 24 assists - in 90 games during his three years at Boston College.
Almeida played in 38 this season recorded career highs in points (21) and assists (13). The 5-foot-8, 183-pound forward matched a career-best with eight goals.
A resident of Springfield, Mass., Almeida has tallied 52 points - 23 goals and 29 assists - in 115 collegiate contests.
Carey played in 38 games this season and scored a career-high 13 goals and 26 points. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward earned Ledyard Classic MVP honors after he notched four points - two goals and two assists - in victories over Colgate (12/30) and Mercyhurst (12/31) in Hanover, N.H.
A resident of Weymouth, Mass., Carey has recorded 56 points - 27 goals and 29 assists - in 103 career games.
BC finished the 2010-11 season with a 30-8-1 record, including a 20-6-1 mark in Hockey East play. The Eagles captured the Beanpot title, the Hockey East regular-season title and the league tournament championship.
