Gerbe Earns Hockey East Player Of The Month Recognition
March 1, 2007
Boston College sophomore forward Nathan Gerbe has earned Hockey East Player of the Month recognition, according to a league announcement made on Thursday.
Gerbe registered seven goals and 11 points in leading the Eagles to a 6-2-0 February record. The Oxford, Mich., resident scored two game-winning goals, one power-play goal, one shorthanded goal and recorded at least one goal in six of the team's eight games.
Gerbe recently earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors (on Feb. 19) after he registered consecutive three-point outings in a two-game sweep of Maine. He registered three points -- two goals and one assist -- in leading the team to a 5-2 win on Feb. 15, then recorded one goal, the gamewinner, and two assists to lead the team to a 6-5 home win the following night. Gerbe also scored BC's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Boston University in the Beanpot championship.
Gerbe has tallied 30 points - 18 goals and 12 assists - and a plus-11 rating through 31 games this season. He leads the team in goals and game-winning goals (5). He has also scored four times in short-handed situations this season, a mark that ranks second among all college hockey players.
Boston College is 20-11-1 and 16-8-1 in Hockey East play. The Eagles have won each of the last four games and resume play on Friday, March 2, at New Hampshire. The game will be televised by the New England Sports Network (NESN) and is set to face off at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles return to the Kelley Rink ice for the team's regular-season home finale on Saturday, March 3, against the Wildcats. Game time is 7 p.m.
