Feb. 11, 2014

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Patrick Brown (men's hockey) and freshman Kelly Hughes (women's basketball) have been named Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.

Brown scored two goals to lead Boston College to a 4-1 victory over Northeastern in the championship game of the 62nd annual Beanpot. It was the fifth-straight Beanpot title for the Eagles. Brown broke a 1-1 tie at 14:30 of the third period to give Boston College a 2-1 lead before Johnny Gaudreau added an empty netter to secure the win. Brown tallied his second goal of the game 26 seconds later to conclude the scoring. Brown's game-winner was the number one play on SportsCenter's Top 10.

Hughes shined in a 1-1 week for the Eagles. The freshman from Point Pleasant, N.J., averaged 23 points in 36.5 minutes per game. She shot 66.7 percent from the floor and a sizzling 71.4 percent from the 3-point line. Hughes went 5-for-9 (55.6 percent) from long range against Virginia on Thursday and then she matched her career-high with 23 points at Florida State while grabbing five rebounds. She hit all five of her 3-point attempts against the Seminoles. Hughes was named the ACC Rookie of the Week.

The men's hockey team (22-4-3, 13-1-1 HE) is at Vermont for a pair of games this weekend. The women's basketball team (12-13, 3-8 ACC) hosts Notre Dame and Syracuse this week.
