Women's Preliminary Round - Group A
Among the Olympians competing for the U.S. are three former or current Eagles. Molly Schaus (2006-11) and Kelli Stack (2006-11) make their returns to the Olympic stage after competing in the 2010 Games in Vancouver, and Alex Carpenter (2011-present) reaches the Olympic spotlight for the first time in Sochi.

In the first hockey event of the Games, the United States women's team defeated Finland, 3-1, in the Group A Preliminary Round. Eagles accounted for two of the three goals, with Stack and Carpenter both finding the back of the net.

The puck dropped at 3:00 a.m. eastern time and the United States jumped to an early lead just 53 seconds into the period. The lead was extended to 2-0 in the second period with a goal from Stack at 27:42, and then to 3-0 eight minutes later when Carpenter capitalized on a power play opportunity. Finland scored on a power play in the final minutes of the game for the 3-1 end result.

The U.S. will continue in the Preliminary Round against Switzerland on Monday, Feb. 10 at 5:00 a.m. eastern time.
