Demko, Hughes Named Eagles of the Week

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshmen Thatcher Demko (men's hockey) and Kelly Hughes (women's basketball) have been named Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.

Demko led the Eagles to a pair of wins last week as he made a combined 57 saves in two games. He earned his first career shutout at Providence in a 2-0 win, stopping 30 shots. He then saved 27 shots in BC's 3-1 win over Boston University to help the Eagles to the finals of the 62nd annual Beanpot.

Hughes shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the 3-point line to finish with 14 points at Pittsburgh. She also had a career-high nine rebounds. In Sunday's overtime loss at Virginia Tech, she had a team-high 22 points by going 8-for-16 from the floor. She also dished out four assists. Hughes shot a season-high 54.2 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point land in the two games.

No. 2 men's hockey (20-4-3, 12-1-1 HEA) hosts Merrimack on Friday night before taking on Northeastern in the Beanpot final on Monday. Women's basketball (11-12, 2-7 ACC) hosts Virginia on Thursday night before playing at Florida State on Sunday.
