Former Boston College goaltender Scott Clemmensen has been voted Hockey East's Unsung Hero in conjunction with the 25th anniversary celebration of the league, according to an announcement made on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009.
Clemmsensen holds BC's record for career victories with 99 and finished his collegiate career as the NCAA Tournament's career leader in victories (10) and saves (356).
The Urbandale, Iowa, resident led the Eagles to four consecutive Frozen Fours (1998-2001) culminating in the 2001 NCAA national championship as a senior.
"Scott Clemmensen enjoyed four outstanding years here at Boston College, but he played his best when the stage was the biggest and when the lights shined the brightest," head coach Jerry York said. "Scott had a remarkable 26-1-1 career record in the month of March. He was always very focused and well prepared. While I'm very pleased to see Scott receive this great recognition, I can assure you that he was never an unsung player in our program. He was an integral member of a class that experienced unparalleled success throughout its four years both within Hockey East and on the national level. That Scott is now having great success with the New Jersey Devils comes as no surprise to me or anyone else who had the chance to see him wearing the maroon and gold."
Clemmensen earned Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors in 1997-98 and league All-Tournament Team accolades in 1999 and 2001. He backstopped Boston College to Hockey East Tournament titles three times - in 1998, 1999 and 2001.
An eighth-round draft choice (215th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 1997 NHL Draft, Clemmensen made his NHL debut on Oct. 6, 2001, against the Washington Capitals.
Now in his seventh professional season, Clemmensen is 20-9-0 in 31 games in 2008-09. He owns a 2.25 goals against average and a .923 save percentage for the Atlantic Division leading Devils.
