WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Following a career performance on Jan. 18 against Maine, senior forward Kevin Hayes (Dorchester, Mass.) was tabbed the Hockey East Warrior Player of the Week on Monday morning.

Already coming into Saturday’s game on a nine-game point streak, Hayes put an exclamation point on his 10th-straight game with a point by scoring a hat trick along with a pair of assists to help defeat Maine, 7-2. In Friday’s triumph over rival Boston University, Hayes doled out a pair of assists.

In the Jan. 18th tilt against Maine, Hayes set new career highs for goals in a game (3), points in a game (5) and consecutive outings having scored at least one point (10). Over the course of Hayes’ 10-game tear, he has accounted for 22 points (10-12-22) with a +15 plus/minus rating.

On Dec. 6 against New Hampshire, head coach Jerry York paired Hayes alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Bill Arnold. In the nine games the three forwards have been together, the Eagles have assembled the nation’s second-longest unbeaten streak (8-0-1). In addition to the team’s success, Hayes, Gaudreau and Arnold have all scored at least one point in every game they have played together on a line. In nine games together, the BC trio has accrued 58 points (22-36-58) with a combined +46 plus/minus rating.

The line of Gaurdeau (left wing), Hayes (right wing) and Arnold (center) are first, second and tied for fifth, respectively, in points per game, nationally. Gaudreau is averaging an NCAA-best 2.04 points per game while Hayes’ 1.83 ppg (16-26-42) is second behind his linemate. Arnold is tied for fifth, averaging 1.43 points per game.

Hayes is also tied for fifth in the country, scoring 0.70 goals per game and tied with Gaudreau for third in assists per game (1.13 apg).

The Dorchester, Mass., native just passed former Eagle coach Len Ceglarski on the all-time scoring records for 64th all-time with 109 points (33-76-109).

Hayes’ Player of the Week honor marks his first-career award from Hockey East and the ninth for Boston College this season.

Hayes joins Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Mario Puskarich (Vermont) and Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week Jon Gillies (Providence) as this week’s award recipients. Merrimack was pegged Hockey East Team of the Week after defeating No. 5 Quinnipiac on Jan. 18.

Boston College will play its third game in five days in some mid-week action at Merrimack next Tuesday night, Jan. 21. The first meeting of the season with the Warriors starts at 7 p.m.
