Boston College junior forward Nathan Gerbe has earned Hockey East December Player of the Month honors, according to a league announcement made on Wednesday.
The Oxford, Mich., resident recorded 16 points -- seven goals and nine assists -- in leading Boston College to a 4-0-0 record. Of his seven goals, three were scored on the power play and one was scored in a shorthanded situation. Gerbe registered a plus/minus rating of +10 in the four-game month of December.
Most recently, he captured Most Valuable Player honors at the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., where he totaled seven points -- two goals and five assists -- in victories over Air Force and RIT.
Gerbe currently owns a five-game point-scoring (and goal-scoring) streak, during which he has registered 19 points -- 10 goals and nine assists.
With 28 points -- 15 goals and 13 assists -- in 16 games in 2007-08, Gerbe is the national leader in points per game (1.75). Gerbe also ranks among the nation's best in goals per game (second; 0.94) and shorthanded goals (first; 3).
Boston College (8-4-5) is ranked No. 11 according to latest USCHO.com/CSTV national poll. Next, the team will face No. 12 Clarkson in non-conference action on Saturday at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y.
