O'Leary's Two Goals Lead Boston College Past UMass-Amherst, 3-1

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior forward Jamie O'Leary (Needham, Mass.) scored two third-period goals in a 1:44 span to lead Boston College to a 3-1 HOCKEY EAST victory over UMass-Amherst before 3,007 at the Mullins Center.

With the victory, Boston College improves to 3-1, its best start to a season since 1990-91. UMass-Amherst remains winless at 0-3.

O'Leary broke a 1-1 tie when he poked home a rebound with 12:21 left. One minute, 44 seconds later, teammate Marty Reasoner (Honoeoye Falls, N.Y.) forced a Minuteman turnover . O'Leary found himself with the puck directly in front of the goal and blasted a slapshot past UMass-Amherst goalie Brian Regan (23 saves).

Reasoner assisted on all three Eagle goals, including a pretty feed to freshman Brian Gionta (Rochester, N.Y.) to open the scoring with 15:20 left in the second period. UMass-Amherst's lone score came from senior defenseman Brad Norton on a third period power-play (18:06 left).

Junior goaltender Andy McLaughlin (Milton, Mass.) stopped 24 shots for the Eagles, earning his second win of the season. After two games, McLaughlin sports a 1.50 goals against average.

Game Notes... It was BC's seventh consecutive win over the Minutemen... BC leads the all-time series, 12-3... Reasoner tied a career-high with three assists (vs. Harvard, 2/12/96)... It was Reasoner's 30th career multiple-point game (in 73 games)... Reasoner has scored 14 points (5g, 9a) in seven career games against UMass-Amherst... O'Leary's two goals ties a career-high (achieved four previous times).
