BC Loses to Merrimack, 6-4
BOSTON, Mass.--Junior right wing Kris Porter scored two goals, including the gamewinner midway through the third period, to lead visiting Merrimack to a 6-4 win over Boston College at Kelley Rink. The game marked the HOCKEY EAST opener for both teams.
With his team trailing 4-3 midway through the final period, Merrimack junior Darrel Scoville evened the score with a shorthanded goal at 10:39. Porter tallied the decisive goal just 25 seconds later at 11:04. The Warriors' Sandy Cohen added an empty-net goal with eight seconds remaining in the contest to secure the victory.
Merrimack led 2-1 after one period, with Porter opening the scoring at 8:32 and senior teammate Martin Laroche tallying a power-play goal at 19:24. BC freshman defenseman Bobby Allen scored his team's first-period goal between the two Warrior tallies.
BC outshot Merrimack, 14-6, in the middle period and netted two goals to even the score at 3-3. Sophomore Jeff Farkas tied the score at 2-2 at 10:36 of the period, before senior Jamie O'Leary gave BC its first lead with a goal at 12:34. Junior Rejean Stringer scored Merrimack's only goal of the period.
Junior Matt Mulhern gave the Eagles a one-goal advantage at 2:58 of the third period, before Merrimack thwarted BC's 37-second 5-on-3 advantage and Porter tied the score with his team one man down.
Merrimack sophomore goaltender Cris Classen made 35 saves. BC freshman netminder Scott Clemmensen finished with 21 saves.
