Eagles Outpuck Bowling Green

BOSTON, Mass.--Freshman defenseman Marty Hughes scored the game-winning goal at 16:13 of the final period to give host Boston College a 3-2 victory over Bowling Green in its season opener at Kelley Rink.

Hughes' goal, the first of his career, regained the lead for the Eagles after Bowling Green (1-2-0) tallied two third-period goals to even the score at 2-2.

Boston College (1-0-0) scored one goal in each of the first two stanzas to establish a 2-0 advantage. Junior forward Andy Powers put the Eagles on the board at 5:17 of the first period, and freshman defenseman Bobby Allen added a power-play goal at 7:51 of the middle period. BC outshot Bowling Green, 25-11, through two periods.

In the final period, Bowling Green cut the BC lead to 2-1 on defenseman Doug Schueller's goal at 14:55. Center Dave Faulkner tied the game at 16:13.

Boston College junior Andy McLaughlin, playing in place of the Eagles' two injured goaltenders, finished with 20 saves. Bowling Green's Mike Savard made 30 stops.
