No. 14 Men's Hockey Beats RIT 6-0 To Win Dodge Holiday Classic

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Boston College scored five times in the third period and junior forward Nathan Gerbe registered a game-high three points -- one goal and two assists -- as the 14th-ranked Eagles earned a 6-0 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology to capture the 2007 Dodge Holiday Classic Crown in Mariucci Arena.
Freshman goalie John Muse made 24 saves to earn his second collegiate shutout.
Muse and Gerbe were among five Boston College players on the six-member all-tournament team. They were joined by teammates Anthony Aiello, Nick Petrecki and Ben Smith. RIT's Matt Smith was the sixth selection.
Nisswa, Minn., native Carl Sneep (1 goal, 1 assist) tallied his first collegiate multiple-point performance while forwards Ben Smith (1 goal, 1 assist), Joe Whitney (1 goal, 1 assist) and Benn Ferriero (2 assists) all tallied multiple points for the victors.
BC improves its record to 8-4-5 and has won each of the last five games, outscoring opponents 31-9.
Whitney opened the scoring with the only goal of the first two periods -- a power-play tally with 2:33 left in the opening period.
After a scoreless middle period, Gerbe doubled the Eagles' lead three minutes into the final frame.
Smith scored BC's fifth goal -- his 13th of the season -- at 12:07. Sneep concluded the scoring at 19:08.
The visiting Eagles matched a season-high with 44 shots and totaled 16-8 and 19-8 advantages in the second and third periods.
RIT sophomore goalie Louis Menard made 38 saves in the losing effort.
The Tigers fall to 7-7-3 on the season.
Game Notes: BC's Dodge Holiday Classic championship marked its first in four trips. The holiday tournament had been won by Minnesota -- the host team -- for the last eight seasons. LW Nathan Gerbe extended his point-scoring (and goal-scoring) streak to five games, during which he has registered 19 points -- 10 goals and nine assists ... RW Joe Whitney's first-period goal marked his fourth of the season and first since Oct. 26 against Merrimack ... With two power-play goals, BC extended its streak to 14 games and improved its conversion rate to 27.8 percent (25-for-90) ... C Brian Gibbons (5 games; 1-5-6 totals), C Benn Ferriero (4 games; 2-7-10 totals), C Dan Bertram (3 games; 3-2-5 totals), D Nick Petrecki (3 games; 0-3-3 totals) and RW Joe Whitney (3 games; 0-8-8) all extended their scoring streaks in the victory over RIT ...
