Gerbe, Ferriero Lead No. 15 Men's Hockey To 7-2 Win At Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Juniors Nathan Gerbe (4 goals, 1 assist) and Benn Ferriero (2 goals, 3 assists) each recorded a career-high five points and freshman Joe Whitney tallied four assists to lead 15th-ranked Boston College to a 7-2 non-league victory over No. 14 Harvard before 2,469 fans in Bright Hockey Center.

The visiting Eagles (6-4-5), who return to action next against Air Force in the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., on Dec. 29, scored a season-high four power-play goals in the victory.

BC netted two goals in the first and third periods, and three in the middle frame en route to the victory.

Gerbe and Harvard freshman Michael Biega (2 goals) each traded man-advantage tallies early in the first period and Matt Greene scored at 13:29 to give BC a 2-1 lead after the initials 20 minutes of play.

Ferriero and Gerbe opened the scoring early in the second period, netting consecutive tallies at 3:17 and 6:51.

After Biega's second power-play goal of the game - at 11:38 - Gerbe scored two man-advantage goals and Ferriero netted an even-strength tally for the 7-2 final.

BC freshman goalie John Muse made 34 saves to earn his sixth collegiate victory. Sophomore Kyle Richter made 16 saves in 42:55. Ryan Carroll, who replaced Richter in the third period, recorded four saves in 17:05.

Game Notes: Gerbe has registered 12 points -- eight goals and four assists -- in the last three games and has totaled 21 points -- 13 goals and eight assists -- in 14 games this season. He ranks tied (with St. Cloud State's Garrett Roe) for second in the country in points per game (1.50). Gerbe's four goals and five points against Harvard each marked career highs. With four assists, freshman Joe Whitney has registered a league-high 16 assists through 15 games ... The Eagles power play scored for the 12th straight game and is now converting 26.9 percent of its chances -- a mark that ranks second in the nation.
