No. 5 Men's Hockey Battles To 5-5 Tie With Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Senior captain Brock Bradford registered his first career hat trick, scoring his third goal of the game in the second period but Merrimack rallied for two third period goals, the last by sophomore Chris Barton with 3:25 left to play to earn a 5-5 Hockey East tie with Boston College before 2,739 fans in Lawler Arena.
On a late power play, Barton netted a loose puck off a point shot from freshman Karl Stollery to even the score with the Eagles.
BC, which held leads of 2-0, 4-2, and 5-3, was outshot 12-6 in the third period, but held a 23-20 edge in shots through the first two periods. The two teams both finished with 34 shots.
Bradford scored on a breakaway just 22 seconds into the first period.
BC sophomore forward Brian Gibbons followed shortly after with a power play goal to put the Eagles up 2-0 at 3:10.
Merrimack erased the deficit after Stollery's breakaway goal on a 5-on-3 at 5:49, which was followed by another breakaway score by sophomore John Jamieson at 16:09.
Ben Smith gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead on the power play, knocking in a rebound off a Bradford shot at 18:45 to put the Eagles up 3-2 at the end of the first period.
BC took a 4-2 lead when Bradford converted his second goal of the game, on the power play, at 9:25 of the second period.
The Warriors cut the Eagles' lead back to one, on Jamieson's second goal of the night - at 15:09.
Bradford sealed the hat trick on a two-on-one finish off of a feed from Benn Ferriero at 19:08 to put BC up 5-3.
Merrimack sophomore Joe Cucci cut the BC lead in half with a goal at 1:44 of the third period.
BC sophomore goalie John Muse made 29 saves in 64:49. Merrimack freshman Joe Cannata also recorded 29 stops.
