CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior center Mark Van Guilder registered three goals to lead Notre Dame to a 7-1 non-league win over top-ranked Boston College before 6,208 fans in Kelley Rink.

Notre Dame claimed the coveted Snooks Kelley-Lefty Smith Award at game's end. The trophy, given each year to the winner of the BC-ND game, is named for the legendary former coaches of the two schools.

The Fighting Irish led 2-0 after one period and extended its margin to 4-0 after two periods. BC (1-1-0) netted its lone goal - on the power play - 48 seconds into the third period. Notre Dame answered with the game's final three tallies, two with the man advantage.

Van Guilder opened the scoring just 1:03 into the game. Freshman Ryan Thang doubled the ND margin at 14:08. Classmate Kevin Deeth made the score 3-0 at 12:11 of the second period, before Van Guilder finished the period's scoring just 62 seconds later.

After junior Dan Bertram tallied BC's only goal, Van Guilder completed his hat trick at 4:50. Sophomore Erik Condra and freshman Brett Blatchford rounded out the Irish offensive attack with goals at 13:53 and 16:12.

Senior goalie David Brown earned his 27th collegiate win by making 26 stops. BC junior Cory Schneider made 24 saves in 53:53, before senior Joe Pearce made one stop in the game's final 6:07.
