BOSTON (FANSonly) - The Boston College men's ice hockey team fell in sudden-death to the University Michigan 3-2 in the NCAA Championship game Saturday at the FleetCenter.
Josh Langfeld scored the game-winner for the Wolverines 17:51 into the overtime period, leading Michigan to its second national title in three years and record ninth hockey championship. No other school has more than six.
A record 18,000+ turned out at the FleetCenter, with Boston College the obvious hometown crowd favorite. The Eagles started the game off quickly with goals from Mike Lephart and Kevin Caulfield and held the momentum early in the game.
Scott Clemmensen was stellar in net for BC, stopping 32 shots and keeping the Eagles in the game despite being peppered with quality shots throughout the game.
Mark Kosick scored both goals in regulation for Michigan, the second to tie the game with 6:12 left to and send the game into overtime. Marty Turco stopped 27 shots for the win.
Boston College (27-9-5) lost for the first time in 15 games. The Wolverines (32-11-1) had been to the last four Final Fours and won the title in 1996 - also in overtime and also with Turco in net.
