Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sophomore forward Nathan Gerbe registered one goal, the gamewinner, and two assists to lead 13th-ranked Boston College to a 6-5 victory and the regular-season sweep of Maine before 6,219 fans in Conte Forum.

Six different Eagles scored one goal apiece to lead the team to the victory. The win marked head coach Jerry York's 300th at Boston College.

Senior captain Brian Boyle (one goal, two assists) and junior forward Matt Greene (one goal, one assist) also tallied multiple-point performances for the Eagles (18-11-1, 14-8-1 Hockey East).

Maine senior center Michel Leveille and junior right wing Billy Ryan each recorded two-goal efforts.

Senior forward Josh Soares scored a power-play goal to bring the Black Bears within one goal - at 6-5 - with 4:28 left to play. The score, Soares' second in as many nights, came just 25 seconds into a two-man advantage. BC's Nathan Gerbe had been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct and the Eagles were whistled for having too many men on the ice at 15:07.

The teams traded the first four goals of the game. Freshman left wing Matt Price opened the scoring at 16:17. Maine's Billy Ryan scored with 50 second left in the period to even the game at 1-1 after the first period.

After BC's Brett Motherwell and Maine's Leveille traded second-period goals, the hosts scored on consecutive occasions late in the middle period to take a 4-2 advantage into the final frame.

Junior Dan Bertram scored his fifth goal of the season at 15:39. Classmate Matt Greene, who also assisted on Price's first-period score, notched his second of the season at 19:25.

Leveille cut Maine's deficit to one goal - at 4-3 - just 42 seconds into the third period and Ryan evened the score on the power play with 12:41 left in the game.

The Eagles countered with unanswered goals from Boyle at 9:48 and Gerbe at 14:38.

Both teams took 34 shots in the game. BC goalie Cory Schneider made 29 saves for his 55th career win, moving him into fourth place with Paul Skidmore (1975-79) on BC's all-time goalie wins list.

Bishop collected 28 saves in 59:07.

At the conclusion of the first period, Boston College retired the jersey of Bernie Burke '50, an All-America goaltender who served as captain of BC's 1949 National Championship team and long-time Eagle freshman coach.
