No. 3 Men's Hockey Defeats No. 15 Boston University, 3-2

BOSTON - Sophomore Steven Whitney, senior Brian Gibbons and sophomore Brian Dumoulin each scored first-period goals as visiting Boston College built a three-goal lead and senior goalie John Muse finished with 30 saves to guide the third-ranked Eagles to a 3-2 Hockey East victory over No. 15 Boston University before 6,150 fans at Agganis Arena.
Coupled with a pair of December victories over the Terriers, BC swept the three-game league series for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
BC out shot BU in the first period, 13-9, and went 2-for-2 on the power play. Whitney opened the scoring even strength at 4:38, before Gibbons and Dumoulin scored power-play goals at 9:10 and 16:25 to build a 3-0 lead at first intermission.
BU out shot BC in the second period, 9-6. Garrett Noonan netting his first collegiate tally at 3:36 and David Warsofsky concluding the game's scoring on the power play at 11:01.
The teams played a scoreless third period in which Muse stopped 14 shots to earn his 14th win of the season and the 76th of his career.
BU junior goaltender Kieran Millan stopped 24 shots, including an outstanding glove save on forward Jimmy Hayes at 16:29 of the third period, in the losing effort. He falls to 7-5-6.
Next, Boston College will host UMass-Lowell on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
