ORONO, Maine - Four Maine players each tallied one goal and one assist within 9 minutes, 20 seconds between the first and second periods to build a four-goal lead and the host Black Bears defeated third-ranked Boston College 4-1 before 5,001 fans at Alfond Arena.
The loss snapped BC's seven-game win streak dating back to a 6-0 home win over Vermont on Nov. 28.
Maine scored twice in the final five minutes of the opening period and twice in the opening five minutes of the second period and led 4-0 after two periods.
Sophomore Joey Diamond opened the scoring with a power-play tally at 15:27 of the opening period, then notched the primary assist on a Tanner House goal at 19:09.
Junior Brian Flynn scored his 12th goal of the season just 33 seconds into the middle stanza and senior defenseman Jeff Dimmen concluded the Black Bear scoring at 4:47.
Maine sophomore goaltender Shawn Sirman stopped 24-of-25 shots faced to earn the win. He improves to 3-0-2.
The visiting Eagles tallied a 26-24 advantage in the shot column. The Black Bears went 1-for-3 on the power play while BC finished 0-for-4.
Next, Boston College will play at Boston University on Friday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the New England Sports Network. BC will host UMass-Lowell in league action the following night at 7 p.m.

Game Notes: The Eagles were awarded a penalty with 3:49 left in the second period; Sirman stopped Pat Mullane's backhanded bid to his glove side ... the loss also snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak against the Black Bears (7-0-1) ... BC finished 2-1-0 in the season series against Maine ... Atkinson is the 73rd BC player to 100 points. He has 54 goals and 46 assists in 99 career games.
