BURLINGTON, Vt. - Boston College scored twice in the opening period to take an early two-goal lead before the host Catamounts scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-2 Hockey East victory before a sellout crowd of 4,003 fans at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

BC falls to 9-6-3 and 5-5-3 in Hockey East action. Vermont improves to 12-4-3 and 7-3-2 in league play.

Sophomore Brian Gibbons redirected Nick Petrecki's shot from the left point just 1:30 into the game to lift the Eagles to an early one-goal lead.

Junior Ben Smith doubled the visitor's lead, redirected a similar shot from the left point but from the stick of Joe Whitney, who earned the primary assist on the score.

Vermont tied the score with consecutive goals in the middle period and added a third unanswered goal just more than midway through the third period to claim a 3-2 lead - its first lead of the two-game series.

Jack Downing got the Catamounts on the scoreboard at 2:19 and Peter Lenes tied the score - at 2-2 - with 49 seconds remaining in the second period.

Corey Carlson netted the go-ahead goal on the power play at 12:58 of the third period and Viktor Stalberg concluded the game's scoring at 18:37 for the 4-2 final.

BC, which outshot Vermont 16-9 in the first period, was outshot 10-6 in the second period and 15-6 in the final frame. The Catamounts finished with a 34-28 advantage in the game.

Sophomore goalie John Muse made 30 saves in 59:07.

UVM goalie Rob Madone totaled 26 saves to improve to 6-2-2.

Game Notes: Boston College concludes the league regular-season series against Vermont with one win, one loss and one tie ... UVM's victory marks the first win over Boston College in seven games dating back to Jan. 20, 2007.
