April 29, 2014

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior John Jackopsic (men's golf) and senior Tory Speer (softball) have been named Eagles of the Week.

Jackopsic finished in 21st place at the 2014 ACC Golf Championship this weekend after a third round 74 at the Old North State Club on Sunday. The West Hartford, Conn., product opened the weekend with a 74 on Friday and then shot a team-low 68 on Saturday. He shot a total of 216 which was even par for the tournament. He had 11 birdies and 32 pars over three rounds. A team co-captain, Jackopsic's 21st-place finish was the highest for a BC golfer since 2008.

Speer hit .500 (4-for-8) in a three-game sweep of Virginia (4-for-8) last weekend. She had an on-base percentage of .636 and scored six runs to go along with four RBIs. Speer hit two home runs and is now the all-time Boston College leader in that category in addition to RBIs. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native added to her league-leading walk total as she worked for three last week.

The men's golf team completed its season last weekend in New London, N.C. Softball (27-19, 11-11 ACC) has three non-conference games this week before traveling to Notre Dame for the weekend. It hosts Connecticut on Wednesday and Maine on Thursday.
