Kayser Named Head Golf Coach; Poutre Promoted

Kayser spent four years as assistant; Poutre joined Eagles in 2010

Drew Kayser was named head coach of the men's and women's golf programs at Boston College in June 2012, after serving four years as an assistant coach to both programs. He was responsible for technical skills training, strategic coaching, tactical planning and mental conditioning while being instrumental in overall player development.

In his first year coaching at Boston College, Kayser led the women's team to an impressive win at the 2008 Rutgers Invitational and then followed that with wins at the 2009 and 2011 Rutgers Invitationals. He led the women's team to a victory at the 2010 Dartmouth Intercollegiate at Hanover Country Club in New Hampshire, nine shots clear of second place. He also assisted junior Stephanie Hu in capturing the overall individual title in a sudden-death playoff in that tournament.

Kayser led the men's team to its first victory in six years with a nine-shot win at the 2010 ECAC Men's Golf Championship held at Twisted Dunes Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. He guided sophomore Luke Feehan to winning low medalist honors with a two-day total of 4-under par, 140.

Kayser is a PGA of America Master Professional of Instruction, one of four in New England and one of only 37 PGA Professionals out of 28,000 to successfully complete Specialty Certification in Instruction. Kayser was elected to PGA membership in 1998 and has held the Master Professional distinction since 2005.

    Kayser is one of 32 PGA Professionals (one of 12 in the last 16 years) to be selected nationally to the PGA of America's Professional Golf Management Faculty, where he provides world-class training for aspiring golf professionals through skill-based education programs (since 2005).

    Kayser has held golf professional positions throughout the United States:

  • Head Golf Professional at Belmont Country Club in Belmont, Massachusetts
  • Head Golf Professional at the Roaring Fork Club in Aspen, Colorado
  • Head Golf Professional (interim while working for Golden Bear Club Services, Jack Nicklaus' facility management company) at Pasadera Country Club in Monterey, California
  • First Assistant Golf Professional at Muirfield Village Golf Club (home of Jack Nicklaus and the PGA Tour event, the Memorial Tournament) in Dublin, Ohio
  • First Assistant Golf Professional at the Tarratine Club in Dark Harbor, Maine
  • First Assistant Golf Professional at Oronoque Country Club in Stratford, Connecticut
  • Golf Professional at Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, Connecticut; The Lost Tree Club in North Palm Beach, Florida; and Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in Wellington, Florida

    Kayser has trained and mentored under some of the most prominent professionals in the golf and coaching industries, from swing instructors and fitness professionals to sports psychologists, including Adam Schriber, former Lead Instructor with David Leadbetter and Director of Western United States Operations for the David Leadbetter Golf Academies; Mark Verstegen, creator of Athletes' Performance; Rob Mottram, a registered physical therapist and staff member of the Titleist Performance Institute, and former director of the PGA Tour's traveling fitness center program; Jeff Troesch, former Director of Mental Training for the David Leadbetter Golf Academies and Bolletieri Tennis Academy; Mike Hebron, the 1991 National PGA Teacher of the year and author of numerous books on golf instruction and conceptual learning; and Jimmy Ballard, instructor to Curtis Strange (during his back-to-back US Open victories), Hal Sutton, and Rocco Mediate.

    Some other of Kayser's accomplishments are:

  • PGA President's Plaque Award Recipient, In recognition of distinguished achievement of professional development programs, Colorado PGA (2001 to 2002)
  • 2-Time Colorado PGA West "Merchandiser of the Year" (2001 & 2002)
  • Recognized as one of America's Top Golf Instructors by the Consumers' Research Council of America (2001)
  • Golf Shop Operations "Top 100 Golf Shop Award" Recipient, Muirfield Village Golf Club (1998)

    Kayser is a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America, an advisory staff member to iClub (3-dimensional biomechanical analysis company), and a Titleist and Mizuno Certified Professional Club Fitter. Kayser is member of the New England PGA Education Committee and former member of the New England PGA Membership Council. He also has been a member of the PGA President's Council since 2003.

    Kayser resides in Newton, Massachusetts with his daughter, Mikayla, and son, Jack.
