Eagles, Irish To Play in Boston in 2015, 2017
Dec. 20, 2013
The Boston College football team will face the University of Notre Dame in Boston twice in the next four seasons, Director of Athletics Brad Bates announced today. The Eagles will face the Irish in historic Fenway Park in 2015 as Notre Dame has opted to relocate its home game from South Bend to Boston. BC and Notre Dame will play in Alumni Stadium during the 2017 season.
"We're happy to welcome Notre Dame to Boston twice in the next four seasons," Bates said. "Although the 2015 game will be designated a home game for Notre Dame, this is a unique opportunity that will give our football student-athletes a chance to play in this historic venue in our own community while showcasing our program to the world. Two seasons later, the Irish will come back to Boston, this time for our home game in Alumni Stadium."
In playing at Fenway Park, Boston College will return to a venue that served as home field for the Eagles for 76 games from 1914 through 1956. The last time BC played at Fenway was in 1956 vs. Holy Cross, the season before Alumni Stadium was dedicated.
The Eagles and Irish have met 22 times. Notre Dame holds a 13-9 advantage in the series and has won the last four meetings following BC's six-game winning streak between 2001-08.
