Boston College junior linebacker Luke Kuechly has been named one of 20 quarterfinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, awarded annually by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.
The award is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Ronnie Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Kuechly has registered 118 total tackles, including 61 solo stops, in seven games this fall. The 6-foot-3, 237-pound junior leads all collegiate players in both categories.
Kuechly was a unanimous All-America first-team selection after leading the nation in tackles (183) and solo tackles (110) as a sophomore last fall.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native set the school's single-season tackle record in 2010 and owns two of the school's top-five single-season tackles totals, having recorded 158 stops as a freshman in 2009.
