Boston College junior Luke Kuechly has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the 27th Annual Butkus Award honoring the nation's top linebacker, according to announcement made by the organization on Monday.
The 12 semifinalists are: Kuechly, Zach Brown (North Carolina), Vontaze Burfict (Arizona State), Audie Cole (NC State), Lavonte David (Nebraska), Don't'a Hightower (Alabama), Courtney Upshaw (Alabama), Travis Lewis (Oklahoma), Keenan Robinson (Texas), Sean Spence (Miami), Mant Te'o (Notre Dame) and Jarvis Jones (Georgia).
Kuechly has registered 118 total tackles, including 61 solo stops, in seven games this fall. The 6-foot-3, 237-pound junior leads all collegiate players in both categories.
Kuechly was a unanimous All-America first-team selection after leading the nation in tackles (183) and solo tackles (110) as a sophomore last fall.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native set the school's single-season tackle record in 2010 and owns two of the school's top-five single-season tackles totals, having recorded 158 stops as a freshman in 2009.
