CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College sophomore defensive back Ralph Parent (Brookline, Mass.) was named the BIG EAST Conference co-defensive player of the week on Monday for his performance in Saturday's 20-13 Eagle win over Syracuse. He shared the award with Ronyell Whitaker of Virginia Tech.

Parent had two interceptions, including one at the goal line at the end of the first half against Syracuse. His second pickoff came on the Orangemen's first possession of the second half. Parent also added eight tackles and one pass break-up.

Whitaker helped lead Virginia Tech to a 48-20 win over West Virginia as the Tech defense held West Virginia to 95 yards and no points in the second half of the Hokies' victory. The sophomore cornerback had two interceptions, one of which led to a touchdown. He had 45 return yards on the pickoffs while adding 11 tackles (7 solo) and one tackle for loss. Whitaker is tied for the BIG EAST lead (along with Shahib White of Rutgers) with four interceptions.

Virginia Tech flanker Andre Davis and Temple running back Tanardo Sharps were named BIG EAST co-offensive players of the week while the Hokies' Wayne Ward captured special teams player of the week.
