Amidon Earns ACC Receiver of the Week Recognition
Oct. 14, 2013
Boston College senior Alex Amidon has earned Atlantic Coast Conference Receiver of the Week honors after catching six passes for a game-high 121 yards and one touchdown in the team's 24-14 loss at third-ranked Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Amidon's performance marked his third 100-plus yard receiving effort of the season and the school-record 10th of his 39-game collegiate career. It also marked his second 100+-yard receiving effort in as many seasons against the Tigers. Last fall, Amidon, an All-ACC first-team honoree, caught eight passes for a career-high 193 yards and two touchdowns against the Tigers.
Amidon also registered two rushing attempts for 12 yards and finished Saturday's game with a game-high 133 all-purpose yards.
A 6-foot, 182-pound product of Greenfield, Mass., Amidon has 152 receptions for 2,315 yards in 39 career games. He fourth on both the school's all-time receptions list and BC's all-time receiving yards list. He is 144 receiving yards shy of former Eagle and current offensive graduate assistant coach Rich Gunnell's BC record of 2,459. Pete Mitchell, who caught 190 passes from 1991-94, holds the school record for receptions. In between Gunnell and Amidon on the receiving yards list are former Eagles Mitchell (2,388 yards; 1991-94) and Kelvin Martin (2,337 yards; 1983-86).
Against Army on Oct. 5, Amidon surpassed former Eagle record holders Brian Brennan (1980-83) and Gunnell, who each recorded eight 100-plus yard receiving games in their respective careers.
Boston College (3-3, 1-2 ACC Atlantic) is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at North Carolina. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on the ACC Regional Sports Network.
