CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College head football coach Tom O'Brien announced on Tuesday afternoon that sophomore inside linebackers Marco Williams and Jerome Ledbetter will miss Saturday's season-opening game due to injuries.

Williams has a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee that was suffered in practice and will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Newton.

"Marco has a chance to return to play by the Navy game," says O'Brien. After the West Virginia game, Boston College travels to Army on Sept. 9 and then has an off week before its home-opener against Navy on Sept. 23.

Ledbetter suffered a right knee injury during practice and will have an MRI performed on Wednesday, Aug. 30. He will be diagnosed based on results of the MRI.

O'Brien indicated that sophomore Curtis Bolden and redshirt freshman Josh Ott would compete at the inside linebacker spot with a starter to be announced based on practice this week.
