The Boston College football team held its second intra-squad scrimmage of the preseason at Alumni Stadium with solid performances all around the field.
The first-team offense took the initial series of the scrimmage down the field for a touchdown on a beautifully drawn up play. Sophomore QB Dave Shinskie found a wide open Billy Flutie, who slipped behind the secondary, for a 43-yard touchdown toss on a trick play.
Shinskie finished the scrimmage 13-for-19 with that score and an interception. Classmate Mike Marscovetra went 9-for-12 for 83 yards while true freshman Chase Rettig completed eight of 10 for 65 yards.
Senior CB DeLeon Gause picked off a Shinskie pass and reversed fields to go 54 yards to pay dirt. It was the first interception that the defense collected in the two scrimmages.
Redshirt freshman K Nate Freese was 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts, making from 30, 42 and 48 yards. Junior RB Montel Harris led all rushers with 44 yards on eight carries. He also caught four passes for 35 yards. Junior WR Ifeanyi Momah had four receptions for 48 yards while four other players caught three passes.
Sophomore LB Alexander DiSanzo led the defense with 13 tackles and two pass break ups while sophomore FS Okechukwu Okoroha recorded 10 tackles. Sophomore DE Max Holloway had four tackles and three sacks on the day while sophomore LB Luke Kuechly registered nine stops.
The Eagles take a day off from practicing on Thursday but will take part in picture day in the morning. They are back on the field Friday for two practices in preparation of their third scrimmage on Sunday.
