Football Training Camp Update: Eagles Wrap 2nd Preseason Scrimmage Saturday
Aug 17, 2013
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College football held its second intrasquad scrimmage of the 2013 preseason on Saturday morning at Alumni Stadium.
Following the scrimmage, head coach Steve Addazio met with reporters to talk about his team. Below are a few of the coach's thoughts after the Eagles' 14th workout of the season.
The team will not be on the practice field on Sunday and will have three morning practices next week before Villanova game preparations begins on Friday, Aug. 23.
Boston College head football coach Steve Addazio
On being happy with the tempo from the "ones":
"I was early, I really was. I thought we were executing at a fairly high level even though we were missing some key players, I liked it. Like I said, I liked it until we got to the third-down period. It was scripted ... it wasn't scrimmage oriented."
On getting the younger players more reps:
"I wanted to see these younger guys go in there and play ... My mindset was to develop the depth. How many more chances will we have to develop depth? We'll start game planning for Villanova shortly, and then I can't develop the depth anymore. This is one of those times to say let's go up there, let's watch the tape and figure out who really our depth is. That was the focus today, not to say that some good players weren't playing, they were, but some guys we felt like we had seen enough of."
On wide receiver Harrison Jackson getting more reps:
"We're trying to get him [Harrison Jackson] some more work, and Marcus Grant. We're trying to get those guys ready to go. They're younger guys and they just need more work. Alex Amidon doesn't need any more catches right now, he just doesn't. He's good, he's game ready, he's ready to roll."
On freshman running backs:
"Myles [Willis] was [out there]. Tyler [Rouse] has been out with a hamstring injury which is a shame. We need to get him back. Myles got dinged up last Saturday and came back mid-weekish. He needs work. Tahj [Kimble] is kind of dinged up. He's out there but he's not himself right now. David Dudeck just takes all the reps ... He's one of those guys that keeps going and going and going ... He's taken so many reps that he doesn't have juice left in him, but he's still making plays out there. That guy - he's a warrior. Far too many reps are falling on his shoulders right now."
On the priorities of the next two weeks:
"Well, we have about two hard-ball days of camp left, then we'll probably have some form of a mock game - from the locker room out day where you go through every situation, pregame warm-up, kickoff, after a safety, you name it, that will probably happen on Wednesday. Thursday is usually a move-in day, I let the guys have a day off, then we'll come and start Villanova one Friday and Villanova two Saturday and kind of getting going for the game week."
