Boston College senior Andre Williams has been named a preseason candidate for the 2013 Doak Walker Award which is presented annually to the nation's top college running back, according to an announcement by the PwC Athletic Forum on Thursday.

Williams is a 6-foot, 227-pound running back from Schnecksville, Pa., who has played in 34 career games. He has carried the ball 349 times for 1,577 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and 10 touchdowns. As a junior last fall, Williams led the team with 130 rushing attempts for 599 yards and four touchdowns, which included a career-high 196-yard rushing performance at Army.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name the semifinalists on November 14, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the finalists, who will be announced on November 25. The committee will cast a second vote beginning on December 2 to determine the recipient.

The award, in its 24nd year, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

Nominations for the award will be accepted through October. The complete list of candidates, who were nominated by their universities, is located here: www.doakwalkeraward.com.  You can also follow @doakwalkeraward on Twitter for the latest updates.

Boston College is in its first season under the direction of head coach Steve Addazio. The Eagles' season kicks off against Villanova on Saturday, Aug. 31 at noon on ESPNNews. For news and updates on Boston College football, in short form of course, follow @BCFootballNews on Twitter.
