Boston College senior Steele Divitto has been named to the preseason watch list for 2013 Butkus Award given annually to the nation's best linebacker, according to an announcement by the organization on Monday.

Divitto, a 6-foot-3, 238-pound product of Ridgefield, Conn., and Don Bosco Prep, enters his senior season having started each of the last 24 games. Last fall, he recorded 92 tackles in 12 games. He has registered 184 tackles, including 99 solo tackles, in 35 career games.

Divitto has also been recently named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List and has earned preseason All-ACC second-team honors from Phil Steele.

The Butkus Award, now in its 29th season, names 51 candidates to its preseason watch list to honor the retired jersey of Hall of Famer Dick Butkus. Considered one of the greatest football players in history, Butkus was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979, following an illustrious career with the Chicago Bears, University of Illinois and Chicago Vocational School.

Former Boston College football star Luke Kuechly, now a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, earned the 2011 Butkus Award.

Boston College is in its first season under the direction of head coach Steve Addazio. The Eagles' season kicks off against Villanova on Saturday, Aug. 31 at noon on ESPN3. For news and updates on Boston College football, in short form of course, follow @BCFootballNews on Twitter.
