Kuechly Named To Two Additional Preseason Watch Lists
July 15, 2011
One day earlier, Kuechly was also named to the watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award which is given annually to the nation's college lineman of the year. Eligibility for the Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either offense or defense who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, and linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
Kuechly, a 6-foot-3, 237-pound junior, earned All-America first-team recognition from the Associated Press, the Sporting News, the Walter Camp Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association after leading all collegiate players in tackles (183) and solo tackles (110) as a sophomore in 2010.
The Butkus Award will be presented on the recipient's campus in early December. The Rotary Lombardi Award reception will be held from December 6-7 in Houston, Texas.
In addition to being named the runner-up for the Butkus Award last year, Kuechly was one of five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy as the National Defensive Player of the Year in 2010.
