Kuechly Named To 2011 Bronko Nagurski Watch List
July 8, 2011
Boston College All-America linebacker Luke Kuechly, one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the National Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore last fall, is included among 87 players named to this year's Nagurski Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the Charlotte Touchdown Club announced on Friday.
Of the 87 players named to the watch list, there are 31 linebackers, 16 tackles, 16 ends, 14 cornerbacks and 10 safeties. Kuechly is one of 14 Atlantic Coast Conference players on the watch list. Only the Southeastern Conference has more players (with 14) named to the preseason list.
Kuechly, a 6-foot-3, 237-pound junior, earned All-America first-team recognition from the Associated Press, the Sporting News, the Walter Camp Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association after leading all collegiate players in tackles (183) and solo tackles (110) as a sophomore in 2010.
In addition to being a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy in 2010, Kuechly was also named the runner-up for the Butkus Award, given annually to the top linebacker in the country, last year.
The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Nov. 17.
