Eagles Announce Student Ticketing Initiative

May 23, 2013

The Boston College Athletics Department has announced a new method of selling student tickets to football, men's and women's basketball, and men's ice hockey designed to simplify the purchasing process and to increase student attendance at all varsity sports events on campus.

Students will be eligible to purchase a new "Gold Pass," billed as a student all-access pass to Boston College Athletics. For $175, the Gold Pass will grant access to all BC ticketed athletic events including football, men's and women's basketball and men's ice hockey. Access to all events will be on a first come, first served basis until allotted student seating is filled. For select games where demand is expected to exceed supply, BC Athletics will implement a system where student tickets are distributed based on a rewards system. A student's BC ID will serve as the "ticket".

"Students are the heart of our fan base," Director of Athletics Brad Bates said. "Their support is crucial to the success of our teams. After receiving input from them, we set out to develop an easier way to purchase tickets that will provide greater flexibility and also reward our most loyal fans."

Students who order by July 15 will be entered to win a trip for two with the team to the USC game on 9/14. Details of the initiative are as follows:

What is the Gold Pass? All students are eligible to purchase the Gold Pass. The Gold Pass will grant access to all ticketed BC varsity athletic events including football, men's and women's basketball, and men's ice hockey for $175. Access to all events will be on a first come, first served basis until allotted student seating is filled. For select games where demand is expected to exceed supply, BC Athletics will implement a system where student tickets are distributed based on a rewards system. A student's BC ID will serve as the "ticket".

Why change from the current system? Under the current system, students purchase season tickets by sport. Once a sport sells out of allotted student tickets, only those students are capable of attending the game. With the Gold Pass, BC will be increasing the number of students who will have the ability to attend a game, hopefully increasing attendance. This system provides the most amount of flexibility. Goals Based upon student focus groups the goals for the Gold pass are: 1) Increase student attendance at all varsity sport events on campus 2) Keep the process as simple as possible for the students and remove current barriers, 3) Allow the students access to the games as close to the game as possible.

Price The cost for the Gold Pass is $175. This price reflects a $100 savings compared to the $275 charged for the 3-sport package last season. Students may charge their Gold Pass purchase to their student account up until August 31.

Procedure Students who purchase the Gold Pass will have access to all currently ticketed BC sport events using their student IDs. Students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis until allotted student seats are filled. Once that number is reached, additional students may be given access if additional seats are available in the facility. For games where demand is expected to exceed supply, (i.e. Duke Basketball and BU Hockey), the rewards system will be implemented. Rewards System Students will earn points for attendance and early arrival at all currently ticketed sport events as well as certain Olympic sport events. These points will be used to allocate tickets for expected high demand games and special events such as the Beanpot.
