Twenty-three student-athletes have signed national letters-of-intent to play football for Boston College, head coach Tom O'Brien announced on Wednesday, the traditional "signing day" for college football.

"We're very excited about this outstanding group of young men," O'Brien says. "I want to congratulate our coaching staff on a job well done. This is a tremendous class of student-athletes, talented at many different positions."

The class, which features players from virtually every offensive and defensive position, includes local standouts Gosder Cherilus, a 6-7, 275-pound offensive lineman from Somerville High School; Tyrone Pruitt, a 5-11, 195-pound safety from Brockton High School, and Lennox Whitworth, a 6-0, 220-pound Catholic Memorial running back from Milton.

The Eagles mined O'Brien's home state of Ohio for help along the offensive and defensive lines and at defensive back. Cincinnati products Tom Anevski (6-3, 280, OL), Ty Hall (6-4, 285, OL), Nick Larkin (6-3, 245, DL) and DeJuan Tribble (5-9, 180, DB) will join fellow Buckeye State natives Kevin Sheridan (6-3, 265, OL, Royalton) and Ryan Thompson (6-4, 250, Akron) on the BC roster.

The class, ranked as high as 10th nationally by some scouting services, also includes SuperPrep All-America wide receiver Dorien Bryant (5-11, 175, Swedesboro, NJ), SuperPrep All-America running backs Andre Callender (5-11, 190, Roselle, NJ) and Jo-Lonn Dunbar (6-1, 215, Syracuse, NY), and Parade All-America offensive lineman Ryan Poles (6-5, 285, Canandaigua, NY). The 23 high school standouts are joined by one junior college transfer, quarterback Paul Peterson (6-0, 180, Ephraim, UT) who comes to BC from Snow College.
