This Sunday's Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa will feature two former Boston College football players when former Eagles Brian St. Pierre and Patrick Ross suit up for the Arizona Cardinals against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cardinals backup quarterback St. Pierre left Boston College after the 2002 season as the program's third all-time leading passer with 5,837 yards. A two-year starter, he was a captain of the 2002 squad that defeated Toledo in the Motor City Bowl. St. Pierre was originally a fifth round pick by the Steelers in 2005 and has played for the Steelers, Ravens, and Cardinals in his six year NFL career.
St. Pierre was awarded the Varsity Club's Scanlan Award in 2002, the highest honor bestowed upon a Boston College football player. The award is given to a senior who excels on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
Ross was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Eagles after backing up current New England Patriots center Dan Koppen in 2002. Ross also was awarded the Scanlan Award as a senior in 2005. Ross has been on the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and New England Patriots in his NFL career.
This will mark the ninth straight Super Bowl with former Boston College players. Last year Chris Snee and Mathias Kiwanuka's New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots and former Eagle Dan Koppen.
St. Pierre is just the third Boston College quarterback to be on a Super Bowl roster. Mike Kruczek won two Super Bowls while backing up Terry Bradshaw with the Steelers in 1979 and 1980 and
Matt Hasselbeck started Super Bowl XL for the Seahawks after the 2005 season.
