Boston College director of athletics Gene DeFilippo and head football coach Tom O'Brien have announced the formation of the Boston College Gridiron Club - an organization whose purpose is to help promote the BC football program both on and off the field.
The new organization is a merger of two organizations that previously existed - the Touchdown Club and the Football Alumni Club.
The Gridiron Club will be primarily a social organization that is made up of football alumni, season ticket holders and friends. Social activities will include monthly meetings during the football season, pregame tailgating activities, an annual recruiting wrapup reception and a yearly golf tournament in the fall before a home game.
An executive board for the Gridiron Club has been formed and consists of former Touchdown Club and Football Alumni Club members. Candidates for officers in future years will be solicited from the membership.
Officers for 2001-2002 are: president Mike Mucci '72 (a former Varsity Club president), first vice president Paul Galvani '78 JD, second vice president Tom Ward '76, third vice president Keith Barnette '76 (a Varsity Club Hall of Fame inductee), secretary Paul Criscione '80 and treasurer Tom Donahue '63.
The first social event for the Gridiron Club will be a recruiting reception on Wed., February 7 in the Heights Room of the Lower Campus Dining Hall from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
