Eagles Win 22-21 with Late Field Goal
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - John Matich kicked a 35-yard field goal with 1:31 left to lead
Boston College to a 22-21 come-from-behind win over Pittsburgh
in a Big East Conference game that was played in a driving rain
storm and 50 mile per hour winds.

Pittsburgh (4-4, 2-2 Big East) had a chance to run the clock out
but could not convert and turned the ball over to Boston College
on a punt with 2:17 left.
Boston College (3-6, 3-3) took over at its own 25 and marched 58
yards on eight plays to set up the winning field goal. Matt
Hasselbeck connected with Anthony DiCosmo on a 41-yard pass play
to get BC into field-goal range.
Matich missed field goal attempts of 40 and 38 yards before he
booted the game winner.
Boston College fell behind 21-7 with 4:26 left in the third
quarter when Pete Gonzalez hit Jake Hoffart with a 12-yard
scoring pass, but the Eagles then began their comeback.
Mike Cloud, who had 12 carries for 113 yards, scored his second
touchdown of the game, an 11-yarder with 2:09 left in the third,
to cut the defecit to 21-13, as Matich missed the extra point
wide left.
The Eagles pulled within 21-19 on Hasselback's 36-yard scoring
pass to Dennis Harding and a failed two-point conversion with
13:34 remaining in the game.
Dwayne Schulters led the Panthers with 193 yards on 33 carries.
