At BC: Newman has been moved to the front of the defensive line after spending a year at linebacker after a switch from tight end...coaches look to Newman to add speed to the BC pass rush this fall...made four tackles, one for a six yard loss in the spring game...hard-nosed player with outstanding work ethic...versatile player who should excel at the field spot.

1998 Season: Started all 11 games as a linebacker after his conversion from tight end...made 44 tackles on the year...29 off 44 tackles were solo stops...credited with a season high seven tackles versus Miami...made seven or more stops four times...recovered fumbles against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh...was on the receiving end of a two-point reception against tackle for a loss versus Syracuse.

1997 Season: Switched sides of the ball smoothly (from tight end to linebacker), contributing in all 11 games...registered 22 tackles, finishing off 10 by himself...his best performance was against Cincinnati, with three stops and one sack...contributed on four stops at Virginia Tech...made three tackles at Notre Dame.

1996 Season: As one of nine true freshmen to earn a varsity monogram, Adam made his contribution as a tight end...he took a regular turn in the TE rotation, and even earned a BIG EAST starting nod vs. Virginia Tech...a tough, physical player, he earned playing time primarily for his blocking, but still had two catches for 12 yards.

High School: Earned All-America honors from USA Today and Blue Chip Illustrated...captured 1994 and 1995 All-Catholic Conference accolades...led Xaverian Brothers High School to Catholic Conference crowns and Division 1-B Super Bowl titles as a junior and senior...served as team captain as a senior...was a two-year two-way starter -- offensive line and defensive end -- for head coach Charlie Stevenson at Xaverian...recorded 75 tackles, six sacks, seven tackles for losses and four pass breakups as a senior; also blocked two punts...played in the 1996 Massachusetts Shriners Football Classic... joins high school teammate Tim Hasselbeck on the BC roster...also threw the shot on the school's indoor and outdoor track teams.

Personal: Adam Laurier Newman, born December 8, 1977...enrolled in the Carroll School of Management as a human resources management major...Adam and his younger sister Courtney are the children of Diane and Michael Newman.
