2004 Season

Became a mainstay and three-year starter on the BC defensive line...finished his senior season with 23 tackles (13 solos), 5.5 TFLs, 3 sacks for 14 yards and two pass breakups...picked up one solo in his first start of the season vs. Penn State...one solo, one assist, and one sack for a nine-yard loss vs. Connecticut...three solos and one sack for a five-yard loss at Wake Forest...two solos and two assists, including one TFL for four yards vs. Massachusetts...one solo and one assist at Pittsburgh...two solos, one assist and one TFL for three yards at Notre Dame...two solos, one sack for a one-yard loss, one pass breakup vs. Rutgers...one assist and one pass breakup at West Virginia...one solo and one assist at Temple...assisted on two tackles against Syracuse...had one TFL in his final game as an Eagle, vs. North Carolina in the Continental Tire Bowl.

2003 Season

Started all 13 games at right end for the Eagles and has now started 21 consecutive games...finished the season with 29 tackles (24 solos), 8.5 TFLs, five sacks...three solos, one assist, one TFL vs. Wake Forest in season opener...one solo, one QB hurry, one QB sack, three knock downs vs. Penn State...four solos, two TFLs, two QB Sacks at Connecticut...one QB hurry vs. Miami...one solo, one assist, one TFL vs. Ball State...three solos vs. Temple...two solos, one assist, one QB hurry vs. Syracuse...five solos, one QB sack vs. Pittsburgh...three solos, one TFL, two QB hurries vs. West Virginia...one solo, one assist, one QB hurry, one QB sack vs. Rutgers...registered one TFL to go along with one pass deflection and a one QB hurry in BC's upset over 12th-ranked Virginia Tech.

2002 Season

Moved up to starter at left end after injuries hit the defensive line in the Virginia Tech game...finished the season with 31 tackles (25 solos), 6 TFLs for 14 yards, one sack...also had two pass deflections and three quarterback hurries...two solos, one assist, one TFL and a QB hurry vs. Connecticut...two solos, one TFL vs. Miami...one tackle vs. Central Michigan...two solos vs. Virginia Tech...four tackles (two solos) vs. Navy...four solos, one TFL, two knockdowns vs. Pittsburgh...two solos vs. Notre Dame...two solos, including a TFL, vs. West Virginia...five tackles (four solos), one TFL, two quarterback hurries vs. Syracuse...two tackles vs. Temple...two tackles, including a TFL, against Rutgers.

2001 Season

Saw his first collegiate action and played as a backup in 10 games and made his first career start vs. top-ranked Miami (Nov. 10)...also saw duty on special teams...made three tackles vs. Virginia Tech (Oct. 13) and had seven tackles in seven other games...also had a quarterback hurry vs. Rutgers (Nov. 17).

2000 Season

Did not see any action last year and was redshirted.

High School

Earned all-state and all-district honors as a senior defensive tackle at St. Xavier High School...was a Tom Lemming's all-Southeast selection...served as team captain for head coach Mike Glaser...led his 1999 team to a 14-1 record and the KHSAA Class AAAA state championship; St. Xavier defeated Bryan Station, 34-31, in the title game...registered 86 tackles as a senior, including 20 tackles for losses...also competed in basketball and track at St. Xavier...played in the Kentucky-Tennessee all-star game...was a key member of two St. Xavier championship teams; the Tigers won the 1997 and 1999 KHSAA Class AAAA state titles.

Phillip Mettling, born December 19, 1981... enrolled in the Carroll School of Management...an honor roll student in high school...Phillip and his younger brother Michael are the sons of Earl and the late Phyllis Mettling.
