At BC: Was inserted right into the Eagles' defensive lineup in his true freshman season...made solid contributions in 1997, but was slowed during a battle with pneumonia...a hard-working and very coachable individual with a bright future ...tallied two tackles in the spring game.

1998 Season: Made 21 tackles on the season ( 12 solo)...season-high five stops versus Navy...registered four tackles against Rutgers, three versus Louisville...credited with a half of sack versus Georgia Tech

1997 Season: Wasted no time in making his presence felt on the Eagles' defensive corps; saw action in seven plays in his collegiate debut -- at Temple... occupied the second spot on the depth chart -- behind Markell Blount -- at inside linebacker... finished his first season with 11 tackles, including seven solo stops... made five stops, including one solo, against Georgia Tech; had one tackle for loss against the Yellow Jackets... registered four tackles, including two unassisted, at Virginia Tech.

High School: Earned All-Catholic League honors as a senior inside linebacker at Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, leading his team to the 1996 State 5A title...captured Chicago Sun-Times All-Defensive first team accolades in 1996... selected as one of the Midwest Region's Top Prospects by Tom Lemming's Prep Football Report and The National Recruiting Advisor... led Mt. Carmel with 106 tackles as a senior, despite missing two games with a hamstring injury...served as team captain...led his team in sacks and tackles for losses as a junior; Mt. Carmel was the state runner-up in 1995...played for head coach Frank Lenti...also played basketball and baseball.

Personal: Steven R. Martin, born December 16, 1978...enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences...a fine student who was a finalist in Mt. Carmel's English essay competition as a senior...Steve and his younger brother Ryan are the sons of Kathy and Ronald Martin.
