Fencing Wraps Up Dual Meet Season

Hanover, N.H. - The Boston College fencing team traveled to Hanover, New Hampshire, on Saturday, February 10, 2001, to compete in the Northeast Fencing Conference Meet held at the University of New Hampshire. Present at the meet were UNH, UMass, Tufts, BU, Sacred Heart, Wellesley, and Smith. The Eagle's finished up their dual meet season with an outstanding showing. The men's team went 5-0 on the day, improving their cumulative dual meet record to 15-8 while the women's team went 5-1 on the day, improving their own record to 14-12. Their single defeat was a close 13-14 loss to Tufts.

Three men's fencers were undefeated on Saturday - senior Greg Shea in foil, freshman Paul Taylor in foil and senior Jeff Marston in epee. On the women's side, Regina Lennox continued her winning ways with a 12-2 record for the day. Fellow sophomore epeeist Kate Boyle went 10-3. The scores for the men's team were as follows: BC 22 - UNH 5, BC 23 - UMass 4, BC 18 - Tufts 9, BC 21 - BU 6, BC 25 - Sacred Heart 2. The final scores for the women's team were as follows: BC 20 - UNH 7, BC 17 - UMass 10, Tufts 14 - BC 13, BC 21 - Wellesley 6, BC 18 - Smith 9, BC 19 - Sacred Heart 8.

This meet was the Eagles' last dual meet of the season. The next scheduled event, in which four Boston College fencers will compete, is the Junior Olympic Championships held on Friday, February 16, 2001. Kate Boyle, Jessica Peakes, Dave Moyston, and Paul Taylor will represent the Eagles at the event.
