Fencing Hosts Sixth Annual Beanpot
Feb. 13, 2013
The Boston College women's fencing team went 1-2 while the men's side finished 0-3 at the Sixth Annual Fencing Beanpot at the Flynn Recreation Complex in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Tuesday night.
The Eagles competed against a difficult field at the yearly event. The only victory of the night for BC came as the women's team defeated MIT, 14-13 in the first round. Senior standout Olivia Curry was forced to withdraw from the match due to injury, and the loss of the sabrist was evident in the next round where the BC women fell to Brandeis, 15-12.
The men dropped matches against MIT and Brandeis by the thinnest of margins, 14-13.
Harvard (No. 7 men, No. 8 women) continued its domination of the event, winning all its matches by double-digit margins.
Despite the disappointing results overall, several Eagles shined. The men's epee squad battled back to go 3-0 in their final round against Harvard, Linda Zhang fought back at 4-4 to win her bout against Harvard's 2012 NCAA qualifier Kathy Chou, and men's foil posted a perfect 9-0 record against MIT.
Boston College returns to the strip at the New England Collegiate Championships at Brandeis on Feb. 23.
