BC Women's fencing upset #9 Penn 14-13 en route to a 3-2 day, while the men's team went 4-1 with their only loss coming to #7 Penn at the Eric Sollee Invitational at Brandeis on Saturday.
After struggling in the first two rounds against Johns Hopkins and NYU, the women's team bounced back with three wins, including an upset of #9 Penn. A 7-2 run by the sabre squad, a 6-3 performance in epee, and a critical win in foil, provided BC with the win.
"This was an exciting win for the team," head coach Syd Fadner said. "It generated a lot of confidence which we look to carry forward to our conference meets next weekend."
Freshman Ryan Western continued to impress, posting a 9-4 record in foil.
The men's side compiled a 4-1 record with both the sabre and epee squads providing a strong performance in victories over Johns Hopkins, NYU, Hunter and Haverford. BC gave #7 Penn their toughest match of the day, but fell 9-18 to the Nittany Lions.
Sabre put up two 9-0 efforts, against Hunter and Haverford, while epee went 6-3 against Johns Hopkins and Hunter.
