GREENSBORO, N.C. - Boston College was selected to finish eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to the preseason media poll released by the league office at its annual "Operation Basketball" event. The event was held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Junior guard Tyrese Rice earned a spot on the league's preseason first team. Rice, who gained All-ACC second-team honors last winter, was joined on the team by Tyler Hansbrough (UNC), Sean Singletary (Virginia), Brandon Costner (NC State) and Ty Lawson (UNC). Hansbrough was chosen as the preseason player of the year.

All preseason selections were made by the attending media.

North Carolina topped the preseason poll, receiving all 64 first-place votes and 768 total points. Duke was selected second (653 points), followed (in order) by NC State (641), Clemson (514), Virginia (492), Maryland (447), Georgia Tech (389) and then BC (332). Florida State (284), Virginia Tech (162), Wake Forest (157) and Miami (153) rounded out the poll.

Duke freshman Kyle Singler was chosen as the preseason rookie of the year.

Head coach Al Skinner, senior forward/center John Oates and Rice represented BC at the media day.

Boston College opens its season with an exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 4, and then hosts New Hampshire in the regular-season opener on Saturday, Nov. 10.
