Anderson's Spain Blog: Day 5
Aug. 30, 2012
Sophomore Ryan Anderson had 12 points and six rebounds in Boston College's loss to Valencia Basket Club Thursday night. The team visited the aquarium earlier during its only full day in Valencia.
His blog about the day is below:
We got the chance to sleep in until 10:30 a.m. today and that is always a good start to my day. I woke up and immediately was eager to get to the aquarium here in Valencia. We all headed over there and we were waiting for our tickets when the funniest thing happened! This man and these two women dressed as jungle people came over to our group. They had weird jungle clothes and face paint on and they wanted to show us their tribal dance. They had us get into a circle and they put us through a jungle ritual dance. They had us stomping our feet and slapping our chests all in a rhythmic beat. It was too funny! Coach Graham thought we should do the dance more often because it had all of us in a good defensive stance. After we got done with their dance, they wanted us to show them a dance of our own; so all of the guys on the team broke out our team dance called the "Donkey Hotay." It's when you get really low and donkey kick backwards. You can mix it up however you want and it's hilarious to watch everyone do their own version of it. The jungle people did the "Donkey Hotay" pretty well for it being their first time.
After our whole dancing situation was over, we continued our way into the aquarium. We walked through a 200-foot long tunnel with fish swimming all around us. It was a really cool experience to start off our day there. We continued to walk around and we saw sea lions walruses and sharks. By far the coolest thing was when we were watching the walrus in the water and when we clapped for him, the walrus clapped back! He was smiling, clapping and shooting water up at us. For an animal that weighs 1,700 kilograms it was a very graceful creature.
After the aquarium, we went to the Nike store in Valencia. We all found some really cool things. I found some Nike knee sleeves that I have been wanting to buy for a long time and Lonnie bought a Nike Valencia shirt since he is from Valencia, California. We continued back to the hotel after the Nike store to have team meal at 3 p.m. before our game at 7.
The game was a very interesting one to say the least. We played a top division team here and they showed why those guys get paid so well. They were crisp on offense and defense. At one point, we cut the lead down to four points, but that's as close as we got. They ended up winning by 27 points, but it was a great learning experience for us.
On our way to Barcelona in the morning! Last place on our trip! I can't wait to see what Barcelona has in store for us!
