Men's Basketball Beats Real Canoe Madrid, 60-56

MADRID, Spain - Sophomore Ryan Anderson led the Boston College men's basketball team with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Eagles defeated Real Canoe Madrid, 60-56, Tuesday night in Spain's capital city.
Thirteen of Anderson's points came in the second half. Sophomore Patrick Heckmann had 13 points and connected on four 3-pointers. He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter alone. Junior Danny Rubin contributed 11 points. Freshmen Joe Rahon and Olivier Hanlan chipped in on the boards with six and five rebounds, respectively. Sophomore Jordan Daniels led the team with three assists, including two in the closing moments that sealed the win.
The Eagles fought foul trouble all night long as sophomore Dennis Clifford and freshman Olivier Hanlan eventually fouled out. Real Canoe went 22-for-31 from the foul line while BC went 10-for-15. Real Canoe was held to just 15 made field goals.
Boston College trailed Real Canoe for most of the first half, but cut the deficit to two, 28-26, going into the locker rooms. The Eagles' defense clamped down even more in the third quarter, not allowing a point for the first 6:06. BC scored eight unanswered points to start the second half to take a 34-28 lead. Real Canoe fought back and regained the lead, 43-41, with a lay-in at the third quarter horn.
BC once again took command early in the fourth quarter by scoring the frame's first six points to take a 47-43 lead. Real Canoe stuck around and tied it up, 54-54, with less than two minutes to play. BC notched the next five points as Daniels found Heckmann in the corner for a three and then Anderson at the top of the key to close out the win.
The Eagles will travel by bus to Valencia Wednesday morning and face Valencia of the ACB league Thursday night.
