MADRID, Spain - Sophomore Dennis Clifford notched a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds but the Boston College men's basketball team lost its Spain opener to Eurocolegio Casvi, 86-77, Monday night.
Clifford notched 16 of his points in the first half, including 12 in the second quarter. Sophomore Ryan Anderson recorded 14 points and eight boards and classmate Lonnie Jackson scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter.
Eurocolegio Casvi had five-point leads at halftime and at the end of the third quarter, but seven unanswered points to start the fourth pushed its lead to 62-50. A couple of Jackson 3-pointers cut the deficit to five midway through the quarter, but Eurocolegio Casvi pulled away in the end for the win.
Juan Jose Garcia and Rafa Molina led Eurocolegio Casvi with 25 and 20 points, respectively.
The Eagles will play one more game in Madrid Tuesday night when they face Real Canoe Madrid.
Prior to the game, the team went on a guided bus tour of the entire city. The featured stops included the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, the Temple of Debod, the Plaza de Espana and the stadium of Real Madrid - where the Eagles ran into the Oregon State basketball team.
